Tips On How To Pass Your Driving Test… Common Road Rules.

• STOP sign and Red traffic light – Entire Car must stop behind the solid white line WITHIN 1mtr. STOP means STOP even if there are no cars
• When approaching a green light be prepared to stop if the light turns amber. If you can safely stop behind the line, within 1mtr,
you must also make sure, before your decision to stop, that there is not a car close behind thereby avoiding a rear end crash.
• Green light means go but this may not always be safe. You should scan ALL intersections including railway lines
before entering being alert for danger, including cyclists and pedestrians.
• ROUNDABOUTS - Give way to all traffic on the roundabout particularly right hand side and fast approaching cars.
• When entering dual lane roundabouts make sure you stay in the same lane.
• When exiting a roundabout you must put your left hand indicator on.
• Treat every road as a 50km zone unless you see a speed sign. Don’t be in a hurry to fail.
• Any road works treat as 40km even if you don’t see a sign (you may have missed seeing it) particularly if there are workers and machinery in the area.
• School zones and road works - 40km means 40km. 42km or 5% or more over ANY speed limit is a termination of test (Fail).
• Any change of speed zone DOWN must be done before the sign. Any speed zone change UP must be done after the sign.
• Pedestrian crossings and pedestrians at traffic lights. - You must wait until pedestrians have completely left your road
not just your lane before proceeding. Once they have reached an island or barrier you can proceed on.
• When turning right at a traffic light only one car is permitted to enter. Stay behind the solid white line
until the car in front has exited. Give way to pedestrians in the middle of the island, not at the lines they are walking behind.
• If you are in a traffic light intersection and the light turns amber. You must clear the area… but ONLY when safe, if the lights turn to amber and even red.
